New EU Telecoms Regulator, BEREC, gets to work |

 This body, composed of regulators from the 27 member countries of the European Union with temporary headquarters in Brussels, is responsible for issuing opinions on the projects of market analysis and imposition of obligations made by national regulators, as well as decisions, recommendations and guidelines of the European Commission, especially in decisions with transboundary aspects.
The new body, BEREC, replaces the old European Regulators Group, and is born as a result of new EU legislative framework for telecommunications that was adopted late last year. In addition, Reinaldo Rodriguez, president of CMT will become one of the three vicepresidents of the regulatory body, sharing this position with the president of the German regulator (BNetzA), Matthias Kurth, and with the President of the Netherlands telecommunications regulator (OPTA) Chris A. Fonteijn. The BEREC will be chaired until 2011 by the Irish authority responsible for telecommunications ComReg, John Doherty.
