New opportunities to provide broadband in marine environments.
 Next Tuesday October 6, 2009 will take place the presentation of the results of the project "Wireless communications SeaMAX in coastal marine environments", that will be held in the auditorium of the Escola Técnica Superior de Enxeñeiros de Telecomunicación. This innovative project, developed entirely by corporations, universities and research centers from Galicia, tries to solve the communications problems they face daily inshore and offshore boats.
This technology allows the transmission of data over long distances through the use of the base stations spread along the coast. The results of the project will enable the provision of advanced services to users of the system such as Internet access, mobile broadband, video surveillance or monitoring of onboard equipment.

The project was publicly funded by the Dirección Xeral de Investigación, Desenvolvemento e Innovación, under the Consellería de Economía e Industria of Galicia.
SeaMax Project is born in the of ICT Platform VINDEIRA, bringing together five participants of the working group of the Radio Technology platform: two companies (Quobis Networks SL and Wireless Galicia SL), two research groups (Group TC-1 da Universidade de Vigo, Grupo da Universidade da Coruña GTEC) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia (ITG).
The project is led by the galician engineering company Quobis Networks in collaboration with the company Wireless Galicia, the Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia and the Universities of Vigo and A Coruña. The project, lasting three years, aims to research the application of wireless communications technologies to coastal marine environments, especially with WiMAX technology
The purpose of the event is to spread the results of the project and to establish cooperation lines with companies and organizations interested in implementing these solutions, such as fish-auctions, marinas, aquaculture management platforms, etc ..., thus contributing to development of new technologies in Galicia.
