The Commission invests 18 million euros in research on new generation mobile networks 4G |

As of 1 January 2010, the EU will invest 18 million into research that will underpin next generation 4G mobile networks and, more specifically, in research on the enhanced version of LTE, "LTE Advanced", which will provide speed mobile Internet connection to a hundred times faster than current 3G networks.
In September, the Committee will begin negotiating the details with the project consortia, including the proposed "flagship" ARTIST4G, based in the WINNER project achievements and brings together industry and researchers 4G Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK. It is expected that new projects are launched in January 2010.
